Arvīds Barānovs, Taken by storm

Arvids Baranovs is a filmer and photographer from Riga who came to Træna in January to make a drone-photo serie about darkness and light. He came across some different adventures, among them losing his drone in the sea… We will publish some more of his material shortly, but first of all we share the film he made during his stay: Træna Taken by Storm or Ta Træna med Storm! Going in circles on the Arctic Circle. Petter Dass Chapel in #Træna. The single true #DarknessLightSeries light painting piece I managed to craft during my three week stay as an artist in residence in this Nordic middle of nowhere. Although many concepts where imagined, reality decided otherwise. At first the archipelago was tortured by heavy winds for more than a week. But they settled. Then I drowned my drone and the lights. But I had a backup drone and additional lights coming from U.S. Then then lights got stuck in customs and I never saw them. And then the three weeks where over. A perfect lesson that even the best plans with all the backups fail. But hey, I still got to do a ton of my other passion that is landscape photography. So despite all the fails it was time well spent and an adventure o its own.
