Træna-Hawaii (July-August 2019)

Micah Sewall is a travelling writer, explorer and guide with a connection to Hawaii and to Norway. When he heard about the story of Træna-Hawaii he was inspired to start a project connecting the two island groups again.

Micah will focus on Træna‘s connection to Hawaii, along with the meaning of connection and isolation in the information age. Through writing workshops and a transoceanic handwritten letter exchange, he will explore what we might be able to rediscover about the value of slowing down, what we’ve gained through technology, and what we’re in danger of losing.

Caro Krebietke – photographer, (DE)

„Træna Through A Pinhole – Part 2“  (October 2019)

Caro was an artist in residence in Træna during the autumn 2018 and she was deeply engaged in getting the locals to test and learn the art of photography. In 2019 she will be back.

“The archipelago of Træna provides a great variety of inspiring locations for taking pictures with experimental photographic techniques. In 2018 I focused on building simple pinhole cameras with black and white photo paper. For 2019 I plan to extend the project, get some large-scale exposures and more possibilities of colour- and portrait photography. I am excited to continue this project and to have the chance to get even deeper into nature, explore more of the local history and to master the challenges of a constantly changing light and weather situation. Most of all I look forward to offering workshops in collaboration with the school, the local community and the museum.  I am excited to meet all those interesting and open-minded people from Træna once again!” http://carokrebietke.com

Arvids Barānovs – photographer/filmer, Riga (LV)

Darkness/Light (January-February 2019)

Arvids is an advanced nature photographer and filmer and will explore the island group during the winter-time. He will also make an artistic documentation of the winter festival.

Project “Darkness/Light” deals with challenges of surviving darkness that takes over the Nordic regions every winter. A series of photographs will be crafted combining techniques of long-exposure and light-painting using lights attached to drones thus highlighting (literally) specific features of Træna otherwise hidden in the Polar Night.

Chef in Residence: Petter Rolund Antonsen (NO)

Chef in Residence 2019
